Plans show where concrete and utilities were supposed to land. Field conditions show where they actually did. Between those two realities sit RFIs, owner questions, and the next trade waiting on a clear picture of what is in the ground and on the pad.

As-built site maps from drone photogrammetry are a practical way to capture that moment: after slabs, curbs, and major utilities go in—before finishes bury the evidence—produce a current orthomosaic and surface set your team can mark up and archive.

The problem as-builts are solving

Redlines on paper get lost. Phone photos lack scale and georeference. A total-station crew can measure critical points and still miss the narrative of the whole site. Aerial photogrammetry does not replace precise as-built surveys where contracts require them. It does give you a dense, dated visual and geometric record of the whole pad so PMs, supers, and engineers share one base map.

Typical triggers: end of site utilities rough-in, post-pour documentation before vertical rises, handover packages for owners, and dispute prevention when “who put that sleeve there” becomes a meeting agenda.

What photogrammetry delivers in this lane

  • High-resolution orthomosaic keyed to the project CRS when control is in place
  • DSM / point cloud for elevation context and clash conversations
  • Planimetric visibility of slabs, pads, visible utility appurtenances, temporary roads, and stockpiles
  • A shareable archive dated to the pour / utility milestone

Tolerance expectations must match the method. Centimeter claims without checkpoints are marketing. State the accuracy you need for the decision—communication ortho vs. engineering surface vs. sealed survey—and budget accordingly.

Licensing line (clearly)

Drones Inbound is not a licensed land surveying firm. We produce aerial and geospatial data that GCs, PEs, and Professional Land Surveyors work from. If your contract or AHJ requires a sealed as-built survey, your PLS remains responsible for that sealed product. Dense photogrammetry often becomes a powerful input to that work; it is not a substitute for the license.

Commercial and industrial pads across Northwest Arkansas, Joplin / southwest Missouri, northeast Oklahoma, and southeast Kansas. Large photogrammetry scopes can also support bigger sites farther out when the deliverable is truly mapping—not a small thermal or scouting job dressed up as a road trip.

How a typical capture runs

Confirm CRS against the civil set. Place or occupy control/check as scoped. Fly high-overlap imagery after the milestone (and after standing water or steam from fresh concrete is manageable). Process to ortho and surfaces. Deliver with naming that matches the project phase so the file does not vanish into “final_final_v3.”

Timing after concrete

Fresh pours can steam, glare, and stay restricted for foot traffic. Aerial capture often documents slabs sooner than a full walking photo set—with less membrane or surface marking risk. Utilities that are backfilled but still marked benefit from a pass before landscaping erases paint and whiskers.

Handover packages

Owners and facility managers inherit sites. A clean as-built ortho beside the plan set reduces “where is that cleanout” calls six months later. Pair with your PLS sealed as-builts when the contract requires both; do not ask the drone map to wear a seal it cannot carry.

Formats

Ask for GeoTIFF/ortho formats your civil platform opens, plus a lightweight shareable view for PMs who will never touch CAD. Naming by milestone date prevents the dreaded asbuilt_final_REAL.tif chain.

Practical notes

Tell us about reflective new concrete, temporary fencing, and active trades that constrain flight windows. If utilities are still open trenches, say whether you need extra passes along those corridors.
